Cathy Waurick
Early Childhood English Language Lead
My favorite Montessori quote is “The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist”.
Cathy Waurick
Cathy Waurick has called the Philadelphia area home her entire life. She earned her AMI Montessori certification in 1974 and began her career in the classroom, teaching until 1981, when she stepped away to raise her first child. During that time, she discovered a new passion, building a successful second career in photography, managing a photography studio and capturing over 1,200 weddings.
From 2000 to 2003, Cathy blended her love of music and early childhood education, teaching music in a variety of local programs. She returned full-time to Montessori education in 2003, first leading a Toddler classroom for three years, then helping launch a brand-new Toddler Program at a Montessori school. In 2007, she transitioned to an Early Childhood classroom, where she taught until her retirement in 2014.
Retirement did little to slow Cathy’s commitment to Montessori. She remained active as a substitute teacher and, beginning in 2016, served as a Field Consultant mentoring new Montessori interns, including supporting teachers at PCA, until 2023.
Married to her husband, Walt, for nearly 45 years, Cathy is a proud mother to Tim, a professional singer, and Christy, a Montessori Toddler Teacher, and a grandmother to Taylor and Colton. Her happiest moments are spent with her family and her little dog, Maddi.
